WALK THE TALK

If you know Chetana, you know her passion for sustainability. A life-long campaigner, activist and practitioner in reducing our impact on the planet. Chetana believes in 'leave no trace' and ensures that whether it is in her daily life or on travels that her carbon footprint is as minimal as can be. She walks (and runs) and takes public transport or car-shares as much as she can. There is always more that she would love to do and she continues to do as much as she can within the constraints of policies, economy, and lack of alternatives.

Act Local Think Global

Living by this caption. Buying local as much as is possible to reduce carbon miles and supporting local independent businesses.

Plastic Free

Raising awareness and assisting event organizers to be plastic free and stopping the distribution of single-use plastics. Worked with a local running race to stop handing out plastic bottled water at the end of the race to runners. Worked with fellow Sustainability Advisory Committee members to have the Town adopt an Ordinance to stop the distribution of single-use plastics on municipal properties.

Leave No Trace Travels

Travelling by plane contributes to carbon emissions. And using credible companies, carbon emissions can be off-set. It is important to play your part. And even during travelling to other countries, Chetana actively practices 'leave no trace' and using products that are plastic free, compostable, etc. A refillable, washable water bottle is always used. If the water is deemed 'unsafe', a simple filtering system is used, which is effective. Items that clearly pose a difficulty in recycling in many countries, are brought back, eg: plastic packaging.
